We have put together a series called Ipe Questions based on the usual questions we get from customers as they work through their purchase process with us. This is part 2 of 3 on Ipe Deck Questions.
Part 1 is here:
These are the questions that our salesman, George Guy, said are the most common when starting the buying process. These are the questions that are asked midway through the process about how to design a deck, how to order, and how our delivery process works.
How much Ground Clearance should I have?
The minimum is 12″ on at least 3 sides with good airflow but more clearance is always better. The more ground clearance you can have the better it allows for air flow and helps avoid moisture issues.
What about Rooftop decks?
Ipe and our other hardwood decking works great for roof top decks, 2nd story decks, and balconies.
How do I keep my roof top deck from dripping onto the people below?
You can install an under deck drainage system that will collect the water and direct it away from the people below.
How should I design my deck?
You can contact a local builder or Architect and they can work on a custom design for you. You can also Look for designs available online. The main goal is to make sure that you build a deck that will meet your needs and look pleasing to your eye. Some interesting features of modern decks include Outdoor Kitchens, Saunas, Hot Tubs, Fire Pits, Outdoor Showers, and more.
How do I order?
You can contact us to for a quote including all material and finishing. Once you have decided you are ready to order we then can accept your payment via phone.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Cash, Credit Cards, Wire Transfers, and Checks.
How do you ship?
With either our own trucks or a higher LTL (less than truckload) trucking company that is familiar with our product and the proper delivery.
How do you unload?
The customer is responsible for hand unloading the decking so having help when it is scheduled to arrive is strongly suggested. Ipe is one of the heaviest woods you can buy so the more the merrier when it comes time to unload. If you have the ability to have a fork lift that can simplify the unloading significantly.
How long does it take for me to receive my wood order?
Depending on your location and any special finishing it is usually within 2 weeks of your order. We will provide you an estimate of delivery along with our formal quote.
Will the shippers call me before delivery?
Yes we provide them with your contact information so that they can arrange a suitable time to deliver and unload your decking.
How should I acclimate the wood?
This depends extensively on your climate, deck design, and the amount of exposure your deck is receiving. It is best to contact us with all of that information and we can help you plan for any acclimation needed.
